Arcofire supplies Kentec Electronics' K-Detect-iON as the early-warning layer for Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) modules and containers. Lithium-ion thermal runaway releases flammable gases and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from the electrolyte well before a visible fire develops - K-Detect-iON is built to catch exactly this stage.
How it works K-Detect-iON is a self-calibrating flammable gas sensor that detects over 10 flammable gases, including hydrogen and methane, across a 0-100% LEL range, and is uniquely able to detect electrolyte VOCs and hydrogen in the same sensor - a combination built specifically for BESS protection. Response time to 90% of the final reading (T90) is under 30 seconds, and the sensor never needs recalibration over its working life.
Three programmable volt-free relay outputs let the sensor signal status directly, or feed an extinguishant control panel (see Kentec extinguishant release control for BESS), each with its own configurable delay and minimum run time. A tri-colour status LED and Modbus RTU communication over RS485 allow direct integration with an industrial or Modbus controller for real-time monitoring and configuration.
Placement Mounted at rack or module level - DIN rail, magnetic or wall mount - inside the battery enclosure itself, ahead of the point where smoke or heat would become detectable, and standardised across every identical module in a fleet of containers or substations.
