FK-5-1-12 Clean Agent Systems

FK-5-1-12 clean agent fire suppression - electrically non-conductive, residue-free, engineered to ISO 14520-5:2024 for sensitive equipment spaces.

Product information

Fluoroketone-based FK-5-1-12 is an electrically non-conductive clean extinguishing agent that leaves no residue after discharge, making it suitable for spaces with sensitive electrical and electronic equipment.

Key advantages: • Electrically non-conductive extinguishing agent • Leaves no residue after discharge • Suitable for sensitive electrical equipment • Requires fewer cylinders and less space than inert gas systems • Typically allows a shorter room recovery time after discharge • System design must account for room volume, enclosure integrity, hazard and personnel presence

FK-5-1-12 systems are designed to the current ISO 14520-5:2024 standard.

Note: FK-5-1-12 is the correct, manufacturer-independent designation for this agent. It is not marketed here under the name "Novec 1230 Systems" - Novec was a 3M trademark, and 3M completed the phase-out of its PFAS-based fluorochemical production by the end of 2025.

Applications • Data centres and server rooms • Electrical and control rooms • Telecommunications rooms • Archives and museum vaults • Control panels and critical electrical equipment • Enclosed industrial equipment housings • Other spaces where water or powder extinguishing agents could damage the protected equipment

Note: FK-5-1-12 (like any gaseous clean agent) is not, on its own, a general solution for lithium-battery storage rooms - a gas agent can suppress the visible flame but does not always stop the battery's internal thermal runaway. Lithium-battery hazards require a specifically verified, purpose-designed solution.

System components A complete gas suppression system typically includes: fire detectors, a control panel, pre-discharge alarm and time delay, manual release stations, agent storage cylinders, manifold and pipework, discharge nozzles, ventilation shutdown and damper closure, room overpressure relief, room integrity testing, and system inspection and maintenance.

The overall design basis for electrically non-conductive, residue-free gas systems is ISO 14520-1:2023.
